Advanced ceramics students are now eligible for independent study at CMA! This option is available for a limited number of students that have taken at least three ceramics classes at CMA. Your registration fee provides access to the studio during open studio hours, a locker for storage, access to studio tools and equipment, and a professional teaching artist mentor available to get you setup and answer any questions you may have through email. Studio hours run from 1/8/23 - 3/26/23 which coincides with our winter ceramics class schedule. Students must be willing to sign a agreement and are capped at 50lbs of clay per session. As an educational ceramics studio maintained by our Canton Ceramics Artists Guild volunteers who fire students work, we are unable to accommodate production potters. Students with ceramics experience outside of CMA are not eligible for registration as students will need a strong working knowledge of CMA studio safety and procedures.

Offering this 12 week class in our ceramics studios! This class is available for advanced students that have taken at least four ceramics classes at CMA or have received instructor approval to take the class. Form, surface design, glazing, and firing will be explored in greater depth during this class. Advanced students who have taken five or more CMA ceramics classes or working at a level determined to be advanced by the instructor will be required to do their own firing in cooperation with the Canton Ceramic Artists Guild to deepen their understanding of the process.

Offering this 6 week course in-person! Have fun exploring this stencil process while utilizing reduction printing, resist techniques, and the use of photo emulsion. Learn the basic techniques to make your own limited edition prints while experienced students will be able to work building skills to create zines, posters, t-shirts and more! Offering this 6 week course in-person! Delve into the mind of an illustrator! Explore what it takes to design unique characters through fundamental drawing, illustration, and cartooning techniques. Analyze commercial, cartoon, and fine art to build your understanding of visual language and then put that knowledge to work. Explore the principles behind style and effectively communicating a message in your art. All experience levels welcome. Taken the class before? Offering this 6 week course in-person! Throughout this class, you will learn about the heating cycle of glass, how to use a kiln, plus the techniques to design unique pieces of your own design. Make jewelry, coasters, and bowls using slumping techniques to name a few projects. Time will be allotted to work during class, offering one on one attention with instructor help and feedback. Offering this NEW 6 week course in-person! Create and wear your own handmade pair of earrings. In this class, you will design either a dangle or post pair of sterling silver earrings set with cabochon stones of your choosing. Learn metalsmithing techniques, such as soldering, cutting, and bezel setting to create a one of a kind piece of your very own. Have you taken a jewelry class before? Make a companion piece to match! All skill levels are welcome as instructor, Alex Draven, works with each individual student to see them grow. Sign up for multiple classes!

Offering this 6 week course in-person! Learn to see like a photographer and go from taking snapshots to purposeful, well-composed images that reflect your personal vision. Master the buttons and dials on your camera and shoot in modes other than Auto. This course introduces participants to the creative and technical possibilities of digital photography. Some off site subject mater near the museum and within walking distance downtown will be used for class projects and inspiration including visiting a professional photography studio! Topics include camera operation, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance, lighting, and composition. New and experienced photographers are welcome. Taken the class before? *Please bring a digital camera that has a manual mode, DSLR, mirrorless, or some point-and-shoots and a card reader.

Now offering this NEW one-time workshop in-person! Inspired by the animal sculptures in the exhibit "Thinking with Animals." Enjoy a trip to see the imaginative artwork on display in the galleries and create your own animal sculpture that is kinetic, which means relating to or resulting from motion. Get creative and experiment working with a variety of upcycled materials to create a moving sculpture that also doubles as a puppet!
