Drawing I: Line, Shape and Composition with Lynda Rimke | 1–3p | 8 Thursdays August 20 & 27, September 3, 10, 17, 24 and October 1 & 8

Learn simple line drawing from life to capture what inspires you, and master fundamental concepts that make for successful artistic expression. Gain knowledge of line, shape, measuring and composition with gesture drawing and formal drawing techniques. Explore ink pens, pencil and charcoal and create the habit of using a sketchbook for continued practice and notes. Life subjects will include still-life, interior perspective, plants and trees and sculptures throughout the museum. Registration includes drawing tools and a sketchbook, although students are encouraged to bring their own materials if preferred. All skill levels welcome. Ages 16+

NEW! Drawing II: Shadow and Form with Lynda Rimke | 3:30–5:30p | 8 Thursdays August 20 & 27, September 3, 10, 17, 24 and October 1 & 8

Build on your knowledge of line, shape, measuring and composition with new drawing methods using shadow shapes to render form. Master value studies from life: the gradations of shading which are the foundation for painting with color. The last class will have access to explore colored pastels. Life subjects will include still-life, interior perspective, plants and trees and sculptures throughout the museum and a self-portrait session. Registration includes charcoal and toned papers, although students are encouraged to bring their own materials if preferred. All skill levels welcome but previous drawing experience is preferred. Ages 16+
