Advanced ceramics students are eligible for independent study at CMA. This option is available for a limited number of students who have taken at least three ceramics classes at CMA. Tuition fee provides access to the studio during open studio hours, a locker for storage, access to studio tools and equipment, and a professional teaching artist mentor who is available during set times. Studio hours run concurrently with the Museum’s open hours and the seasonal  ceramics class schedule. Students with ceramics experience outside of CMA are not eligible for registration, as students need a strong working knowledge of CMA studio safety and procedures.

This parent-child art class fosters confidence and self-esteem through drawing, painting, and sculpture. The class builds fine motor skills and introduces children to art language and diverse perspectives. 

Learn to analyze and replicate works of art from CMA's permanent collection, focusing on painting styles and techniques. Some prior drawing experience is required. Registration includes all painting supplies and canvas.

Paper, collage, paint, string, glue…this class helps students develop an appreciation for using materials that appear flat but can be transformed into 2D creations. By exploring new approaches to using flat materials, 2-D design is a stepping stone to understanding how to build 3-D sculpture and assemblage.

This class explores the exciting process of creating sculptures from discarded or overlooked objects.  Through individual and collaborative projects, you'll experiment with a variety of techniques and materials, repurposing and combining items in unexpected ways. Develop your creative problem-solving skills and breathe new life into forgotten objects.

Paint from light to dark, create representational shapes, play with edges and wet on wet techniques. This watercolor painting class focuses on building confidence in technique through a multisensory approach based on the colors, textures, and shapes found in nature. Registration includes supplies.

This digital photography course teaches participants to move beyond auto mode and take well-composed images that reflect their personal vision. Topics include camera operation, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance, lighting and composition. *Please bring a digital camera with a manual mode and a card reader.

Stuck on designing and redesigning a character? Imagine the story behind the character and watch it come to life. This series focuses on drawing techniques, character development, and emotion. Registration includes sketchbooks and drawing tools.

Studying art history encourages critical thinking skills, artistic behavior, and holistic learning by incorporating other subject areas. Each session includes an object-based visual literacy lesson in the galleries and an art-making experience led by a teaching artist in the studio classroom.  This program supports the Ohio homeschool curricula’s Fine Arts requirements.

Learn about traditional loom techniques, pattern-making and color rhythm, balance, and finishing – through an easy approach that builds confidence with the hands. Inspired by Michelle Wentling’s fiber art exhibit, participants will design a tapestry pattern, learn basic tapestry weaving, and build a simple wooden loom to continue their practice at home.

Level up your epoxy resin techniques by blending science and art! Learn how to embed found objects and graphic imagery between layers of resin. Explore surface treatment using textured molds and hand painted techniques. Use a small torch to activate color with heat and extract bubbles with a vacuum chamber. Combine art and science to advance your epoxy resin skills!
