Advanced ceramics students are eligible for independent study at CMA. This option is available for a limited number of students who have taken at least four ceramics classes at CMA. Tuition fee provides access to the studio during open studio hours, a locker for storage, access to studio tools and equipment, and a professional teaching artist mentor who is available during set times. Studio hours run concurrently with the Museum’s open hours and the seasonal ceramics class schedule.

Beginner students learn the basics of hand-building and wheel-work while intermediate students refine their skills. Individual projects include functional pottery and decorative work. Students will learn to express emotions and stories through color, developing artistic talent and…explore how artists "talk" with color. Imagine painting flowers with your fingertips using vibrant yellows and oranges, or creating a serene landscape with soothing blue and green ink washes. This process sparks artistic self-expression and creative connection with others.
Hang out with friends in this fun 6-week acrylic painting course, designed for a relaxed, social atmosphere and step-by-step, easy instructions! Students will enjoy replicating masterpieces from the Canton Museum of Art's permanent collection while developing their own signature mark-making and personal style. Each week, a new artwork will be featured, guiding students through color mixing, brushwork, and composition inspired by the museum's diverse range of styles and subjects. All materials provided, all skill levels are welcome.
In this introductory wheel throwing class, beginners will learn the basic techniques of wheel throwing and surface design. With the support of demonstrations and constructive feedback from the instructor, students will focus on building a strong studio routine, developing hand coordination, understanding clay consistency, and gaining confidence through guided practice. This class is a precursor to a more advanced wheel throwing class.
