Advanced ceramics students are now eligible for independent study at CMA! This option is available for a limited number of students who have taken at least three ceramics classes at CMA. Your registration fee provides access to the studio during all open studio hours, a locker for storage, access to studio tools and equipment, and a professional teaching artist mentor available to get you set up and answer any questions via email. Studio hours run from 9/29/24 - 12/15/24 (Minus adjusted hours due to museum closures) which coincides with our ceramics class schedule. Students with ceramics experience outside of CMA are not eligible for registration, as students need a strong working knowledge of CMA studio safety and procedures.

*All CMA ceramics students are required to purchase their clay from the CMA; the cost is $45.00 for 25 pounds of clay and includes cost of glazes and firing.
*Students are capped at 50 lbs. of clay per session. As an educational ceramics studio maintained by our Canton Ceramics Artists Guild volunteers who fire students' work, we are unable to accommodate production potters.

Create and wear a silver pendant with a cabochon stone setting. This series teaches design basics, metalsmithing techniques (soldering, cutting, bezel setting), jewelers’ techniques (hot/cold connections, sawing, forming, stone setting). If you have taken this class before, make a companion piece to match. All skill levels are welcome. Ages 18+.

Although admission is FREE every Thursday from 10 am-8 pm, courtesy of PNC Foundation, we now offer FREE experiential drop-in art-making events on select Thursday nights this winter. Bring yourself, your family, friends, "girls night out," whatever combination you wish ... all are welcome to join us for the relaxation and fun of creative expression and discovering your inner artist.

Each Thursday night features different themes inspired by the current exhibitions and the Museum's Collection of American art. No registration necessary, led by a CMA instructor — all supplies (and inspiration) provided. Just drop in and spark your creativity ...

Connect with history, cultural trends, and societal values through a visual thinking lens. Studying art history encourages critical thinking skills, artistic behavior, and holistic learning by incorporating other subject areas. Ages 10+ with an adult caretaker. Registration includes an object-based visual literacy lesson in the galleries and an art-making experience led by a teaching artist in the studio classroom.

Paint from light to dark, create representational shapes, play with edges and paint puddles, highlight with gum arabic, texturize with salt…Water is a known stress-relieving element found in nature, and painting with watercolor as therapeutic benefits as the medium allows for loose and tighter styles of application with intense or muted color results. This series focuses on building confidence in technique through a multisensory approach based on the colors, textures, and shapes found in nature. Ages 18+. Registration includes watercolor pigments, paper, and solvents.

Spring Clay classes will be held on the following Wednesdays...  2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 2/26, 3/5, and 3/12 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Canton Museum of Art in Classroom 103.
