Marketing Intern

The Canton Museum of Art (CMA) seeks a Marketing Intern. This is a part time internship position responsible for research, planning, promoting, and administrative tasks related to marketing art exhibitions and special events at the Museum.  This position is in the Marketing Department, and reports to the Director of Marketing.
 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with promotional materials for web and print

  • Assist with administrative tasks related to exhibitions and other events

  • Assist with marketing research

  • Create promotional content for social media platforms

  • Assist with e-mail marketing as needed

  • Maintain and update event materials as needed

  • Assist with special projects and fulfill special requests pertaining to events or exhibitions

  • Participate in other CMA activities, events, meetings, and programs as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Open to Marketing and Communications majors

  • Must be self-motivated and follow instructions both written and verbal

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software required (would prefer knowledge of Adobe Creative)

  • Strong written, oral communications skills

  • Accomplishes tasks with a sense of urgency

  • Dependable, friendly, cooperative, and organized

Development Intern

The Canton Museum of Art (CMA) seeks a Development Intern. This is a part time internship position responsible for research, planning, and administrative tasks related to fundraising for art exhibitions, programs, and special events at the Museum. This position is in the Development Department, and reports to the Development Director.  This internship offers the opportunity to work in the professional setting of a small museum and to gain a variety of experiences in event planning and marketing for an arts organization.
 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with materials for grants and fundraising

  • Assist with administrative tasks related to development and fundraising events

  • Assist with research used for grants and fundraising

  • Create and edit written content for grants

  • Assist with donor communications as needed

  • Maintain and update development materials as needed

  • Assist with special projects and fulfill special requests pertaining to development projects

  • Participate in other CMA activities, events, meetings, and programs as needed

  • Perform other Museum related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Open to all majors with relevant skill sets

  • Must be self-motivated and follow instructions both written and verbal

  • General to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Strong written, oral communications skills

  • Accomplishes tasks with a sense of urgency

  • Dependable, friendly, cooperative, and organized

Museum Research and Evaluation Intern

The Canton Museum of Art (CMA) seeks a Research and Evaluation Intern. This is a part-time internship position responsible for researching, developing, and evaluating components relative to CMA’s programming. This position is in the Education Department and reports to the Education Director. Hours are primarily remote with some in museum hours as needed. This internship offers the opportunity to work in the professional setting of a museum and gain a variety of experiences in an arts organization. 


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research best practices of museum institutions in several different areas including but not limited to; education, outreach, and exhibitions pertinent to CMA’s objectives

  • Research content and topics related to CMA’s programming and exhibitions and compose documents for museum and educational purposes as needed

  • Perform various editorial duties including; writing, reviewing, and editing various sources of material for publication

  • Develop and utilize evaluation tools to measure, interpret, and analyze the outcomes of programming to help promote the mission of the CMA

  • Investigate relevant speakers, artists, and organizations for possible future programming

  • Participate in CMA activities, events, meetings, and programs as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Open to senior-level undergraduates, master's students, or graduates who are pursuing or have received a degree in Museum Studies, Art Education, or related fields

  • Must be dependable, self-motivated, and follow instructions both written and verbal

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Accomplishes tasks with a sense of urgency

  • Strong ability to research, write, and edit various sources of information and documents

  • Ability to manage multiple projects/activities simultaneously

  • Creative problem solver with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

COMPENSATION:

  • This is an unpaid/volunteer internship.

  • Remote option and flexible/variable schedule in accordance with internship requirements (if applicable). 

  • Interns are requested to volunteer approximately 10-20 hours per week for the length of 8-16 weeks for a total of 160 hours.

  • Participate in CMA activities, events, meetings, and programs as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Curatorial Intern

The Canton Museum of Art (CMA) seeks an intern for the curatorial department. This internship position is responsible for research, writing, exhibit prep and installation, collection management, and other administrative tasks related to the duties of the Curator of Collections & Registrar and Curator of Exhibitions. Internship is available remotely, in person,  or a combination of both.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research content and topics related to CMA’s permanent collection and exhibitions.

  • Perform various editorial duties including writing, reviewing and editing various sources of material for publication.

  • Create reports such as condition books, accession forms, loan forms, etc.

  • Coordinate with the Curator of Collections & Registrar to document accessions, deaccessions, and loans.

  • Manage registration records and ensure their integrity.

  • Assist the Curator of Collections & Registrar with managing the permanent collection.

  • Assist the Curator of Exhibitions with exhibit installation and de-installation.

  • Assist with administrative tasks related to exhibitions.

  • Accompany the Curator of Collections & Registrar and/or Curator of Exhibitions to other museums, art galleries, conservation labs, etc.

  • Participate in CMA activities, events, meetings, and programs as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Open to all majors with relevant skill sets.

  • Must be strongly self-motivated and follow instructions both written and verbal.

  • Must be able to lift and move items.

  • Strong ability to research, write and edit various sources of information and documents with attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects/activities simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of professionally accepted collections management standards and procedures including art handling, storage and basic conservation.

  • Knowledge of collections database programs, or willingness to learn.

  • Creative problem solver.

  • Dependable, friendly, cooperative, organized.

Photography Intern

The Canton Museum of Art (CMA) seeks a Photography Intern. This is a part time position responsible for photography in various aspects of the Museum. The digital images will be featured on social media, websites, catalogues, and used for publicity. This position is in the Curatorial Department, and reports to the Curator of Collections.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Staging and capturing digital images of artwork in the Museum’s permanent collection, both two  dimensional and three dimensional.

  • Capturing digital images of patrons at CMA events and classes.

  • Editing, naming, and organizing photo files with a quick turnaround.

  • Participate in CMA activities, events, meetings, and programs as needed. 

  • Provide excellence in service and always portray a positive and professional image of the CMA. 

  • Perform all duties according to established CMA operating, safety, and quality policies.

  • Perform other Museum duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Open to photography majors.

  • Must use your own camera, laptop, and backdrop. Lighting equipment provided if needed.

  • Experience with photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop.

  • Must be self-motivated and follow instructions both written and verbal.

  • Dependable and organized.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects/activities simultaneously.

  • Creative problem solver with ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

TIMEFRAME:

  • Flexible and variable schedule in accordance with internship requirements (if applicable). Some hours may be worked remotely.
