New for fall 2022! Advanced ceramics students are now eligible for independent study at CMA. This option is available for a limited number of students that have taken at least three ceramics classes at CMA. Your registration fee provides access to the studio during open studio hours, a locker for storage, access to studio tools and equipment, and a professional teaching artist mentor available to get you setup and answer any questions you may have through email. Studio hours start from 9/4/22 - 12/11/22 which coincides with our fall ceramics class schedule. Students must be willing to sign a detailed agreement and are capped at 50lbs of clay per session. As an educational ceramics studio maintained by our Canton Ceramics Artists Guild volunteers who fire students' work, we are unable to accommodate production potters. Students with ceramics experience outside of CMA are not eligible for registration as students will need a strong working knowledge of CMA studio safety and procedures.

Form, surface design, glazing, and firing will be explored in greater depth during this class. Advanced students with five sessions or the equivalent, (or working at a level determined to be advanced by the instructor) will be required to do their own firing in cooperation with the Canton Ceramic Artists Guild to deepen their understanding of the process.

Offering this 6 week course in-person! Delve into the mind of an illustrator! Explore what it takes to design unique characters through fundamental drawing, illustration, and cartooning techniques. Analyze commercial, cartoon, and fine art to build your understanding of visual language and then put that knowledge to work. Offering this 6 week course in-person! Throughout this class, you will learn about the heating cycle of glass, how to use a kiln, plus the techniques to design unique pieces of your own design. You can make jewelry, coasters, and bowls using slumping techniques to name a few projects. Offering this NEW 6 week course in-person! Create and wear your own hand wrought jewelry. In this class, you will design a silver pendant with a cabochon stone setting. Learn metalsmithing techniques, such as soldering, cutting, and bezel setting to create a one of a kind piece of your very own. Have you taken a jewelry class before? Make a companion piece to match! Offering this 6 week course in-person! Learn to see like a photographer and go from taking snapshots to purposeful, well-composed images that reflect your personal vision. Master the buttons and dials on your camera and shoot in modes other than Auto. This course introduces participants to the creative and technical possibilities of digital photography. Some off site subject mater near the museum and within walking distance downtown will be used for class projects and inspiration including visiting a professional photography studio! Topics include camera operation, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance, lighting, and composition. New and experienced photographers are welcome. Taken the class before? Students will learn to build their fundamental artistic skills essential to any artist. Create unique 2D art projects using a variety of drawing and painting art materials. Visit the galleries to see famous ceramic pieces first hand, tour the ceramics lab and learn the process that clay goes through from beginning to end. Now offering this NEW Art Play Date in-person! Parents, come join your little artists in multisensory art making activity stations for both of you to enjoy together. Learn to interact creatively with your little one while helping your child get started in the world of art. Our sensory play dates are developed to stimulate your toddler's sense of touch, smell, sight, hearing, and balance while encouraging creativity and exploration in a safe environment. Ok-to-get-messy attire suggested; aprons provided.
