Summer Art Camp 2017

Play, imagine, discover, create, and participate in a weeklong arts adventure!


Our popular Art Camp is back with new classes to explore your creative side! Campers will have the opportunity to participate in a wide array of educational and fun hands-on art activities in the museum’s classrooms and galleries.  Fee includes all of the materials needed to explore drawing, painting, sculpture and more while creating their own masterpieces in each themed session! 

Camp is appropriate for children ages 6-14.  Camps will be divided by age groups, of 6-8, 9-11, and 12-14.  Each camp is 5 days long.  Students who register for a “Full Day” must pack a lunch every day to eat during the supervised break.

Art Camp Scholarships!
No family should be discouraged from applying to Summer Art Camp because of lack of funds!  Canton Museum of Art now offers scholarships for the 2017 Summer Art Camp. The scholarships are made possible in part through support from The Hoover Foundation‚Äč.  Scholarship applications are now closed, please check back next year for future opportunities!

Camp Sessions


Session 1a Morning – 2-D Media (Drawing, Painting, Printmaking)
Take your creativity to the next level and explore 2-D materials like never before. Learn creative techniques for drawing, painting, and printmaking.  Masterpieces from the Museum collection will motivate students to experiment with charcoal, colored pencils, inks, watercolors, and tempera paint.

Session 1b Afternoon – 3-D Media (Mixed Media, Modeling Clay, Sculpture)
Build exciting 3-D sculptures using mixed media, modeling clay, and more!  Students view masterpieces from the Museum collection and then create one-of-a-kind works that will impress and inspire.

There is a scheduled power outage for June 19  to replace our main power lines; forcing us to close the Museum for a day.

No worries!  We will still hold summer camp on the 19th – we will simply meet at an alternate location – The Canton Symphony Orchestra’s Zimmerman Symphony Center 

On Monday June 19th please plan on dropping off and picking up your summer campers at:

If the outage carries over into Tuesday June 20th because of rain or other issues we will meet again at the Zimmermann Symphony Center. We will update families with Tuesday’s camp location when you pick up your Campers on Monday. 


Session 2a Morning – Art Gone Wild!
Take a walk on the wild side and explore the animal art from our permanent collection with unique activities for all-ages from a safari adventure inside the galleries to expressive life drawing masterpieces.  Students will use a variety of art media to create ingenious pieces of art inspired by animal conservation and diversity.

Session 2b Afternoon – Creatures, Stories and Fantasy Worlds
Explore a whole new world of imagination! Images in CMA exhibits and literature will provide inspiration, as students use drawing, painting, sculpting, and mixed media materials to craft unique characters, inventive stories, and imaginary worlds.

Session 3a Morning – Creative Ceramics 
What kid doesn’t love to play in the mud?  Get up close and tour ceramics around the world with this hands-on course.  CMA is known for an exceptional contemporary ceramics collection and this is your ticket to explore more.  Experiment with numerous ceramic methods in our specialized pottery studio..

Session 3b Afternoon – Everyone has a Story to Tell
Beautiful books, lettering and illustrations are the sources of inspiration for students to create a handmade book of their very own. Paper marbling, lettering, relief prints, illustrations and book binding will be just some of the techniques covered in this unique camp session.
