The Premier Fine Arts and Fine Crafts Show of Northeast Ohio Fills the Cultural Center for the Arts
and Canton Museum of Art with Artists of National Renown

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  October 21, 2013, Canton, Ohio — Christkindl Markt, a cherished Canton holiday tradition, celebrates its 42nd year, November 8 through 10. Presented by Canton Fine Arts Associates, an affiliate group of the Canton Museum of Art, Christkindl Markt is Northeast Ohio’s premier juried, holiday-inspired fine arts and fine crafts show which attracts visitors from across the state.

This year’s Christkindl Markt will feature more than 100 exhibitors from across the United States, showcasing their works throughout the Cultural Center for the Arts and the Museum. Visitors will discover the highest quality artistic creations in glass, painting, ceramics, photography, jewelry, textiles, floral arrangements, woodworks, holiday items and more. Visit for an exhibitor listing.

Artist applications are juried in late winter with a panel of local artists and acceptance letters are sent in early spring for those chosen to exhibit at the show.  Each year, Canton Fine Arts Associates awards $850.00 in prize money, including awards for Best in Show, Best Booth, 1st and 2nd Fine Arts, 1st and 2nd Fine Crafts and four honorable mentions.

The Christkindl Markt Committee, chaired by Sue Wise, has been working on this year’s Markt since the end of last year’s event, enlisting more than 90 volunteers. “Christkindl Markt is one of Canton’s, and the region’s, most highly anticipated arts events,” said Wise. “Our fine artists offer an array of fun, decorative and one-of-a-kind pieces to make perfect gifts. It’s a great event to enjoy with friends and family and get in the holiday spirit.”

Christkindl Markt “employs” more than 160 volunteers, logging approximately 5,400 volunteer hours for the event.  The Markt attracts more than 4,000 visitors each year to the heart of arts and culture in Canton.

“We are very excited as Christkindl Markt transforms the Cultural Center and the Canton Museum of Art into a holiday shopping and entertainment extravaganza,” said Museum Executive Director M. J. Albacete. “Since 1970, the generosity of Canton Fine Arts Associates with this event has generated proceeds of $1.6 million in support of the Museum — focused on our exhibition, outreach and education programs, as well as scholarships and a Fine Arts Endowment fund.”

In addition to the inspiring artwork, Christkindl Markt includes the Christkindl Café & Markt Bistro, offering delicious snacks, lunch and dinner fare on-site. Visitors will also find an array of homemade candies in the Sweet Shoppe, (including Buckeyes, fudge, bark, holiday cookies and more). A used book sale, $1,000 Andreas Furniture shopping spree raffle and silent auction are also popular Markt attractions.
