FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  April 12, 2013, Canton, Ohio — The Canton Ceramic Artists Guild, an affiliate group of the Canton Museum of Art, will hold their 22nd Annual May Show and Sale on Friday, May 3, from 4:00 to 9:00pm, and Saturday, May 4, from 10:00am to 3:00pm, in the Wilkof Courtyard at the Canton Museum of Art, located at the Cultural Center for the Arts.  Admission to the event is free.

A diverse range of handcrafted, decorative and functional pottery, clay sculpture and more will be on display and available for purchase.  All works are made by members of the Guild, and a portion of sales proceeds will benefit ceramic educational programs at the Canton Museum of Art.

Guild President Kim Eggleston-Kraus said, “The May Sale is popular for our artisans and provides the Stark County community and others a chance to see the vibrant designs and styles produced by local ceramic artists.”

The display and sale opens at 4:00pm on May 3, with live entertainment by “Rock Salt & Nails,” a local band of visual artists, performing original folk and traditional acoustic music.  Free refreshments will be served.  The Museum galleries will be open with free admission to the new major exhibition, “Joseph O’Sickey: Unifying Art, Life and Love.”

The opening also coincides with “First Friday” — the Canton Arts District’s monthly party featuring themed music, performance and visual arts events.  Next month’s theme, “Make a Difference May,” fits in well for the Guild events, as members will be participating in the national initiative, “Empty Bowls Against Hunger.”  For the 17th year, each Guild member has created five unique soup bowls, which will be sold for a minimum donation of $12.00, with full sales proceeds given to the Stark County Hunger Task Force.  In past years, the Guild’s has raised more than $1,000.00 with the “Empty Bowls” event.

On Saturday, May 4, the program opens at 10:00am and will feature ceramic demonstrations all day from Guild members.
