Sara Schneider & Friends

Sara Schneider & Friends

Volunteer and philanthropist, Sara Schneider spent a lifetime establishing and supporting the Canton Museum of Art. Born in Carrollton in 1901, Sara was instrumental in forming the Little Civic Art Gallery in the mid 1930’s, where she served as Gallery Director.  In 1941, the Little Civic Art Gallery moved to the Case Mansion on Market Avenue, where it remained until 1970, as the Canton Art Institute.  Sara served on the Canton Art Institute’s Board of Directors from 1959 until 1969 and designed the catalog system for the Museum’s permanent collection, which is still being used today.  Sara Schneider, art lover and art supporter, passed away in 1970 at the age of 68.  A gallery in the old Case Mansion was named in her honor, which eventually transferred to one of the galleries of the Canton Museum of Art in The Cultural Center.
