Blossom: Art of Flowers

July 1 - September 20, 2009

Flowers have been a favorite theme of artists for centuries, from the classical still life paintings of 16th and 17th century Flemish and Dutch artists, to the contemporary work of Georgia O’Keefe in the mid 20th century.

Blossom: Art of Flowers was conceived to recognize the achievement of contemporary artists working with a floral theme. Blossom: Art of Flowers is an exhibit of 55 contemporary floral artworks, selected through an international competition sponsored by the Susan K. Black Foundation and distributed through David J. Wagner, L.L.C.

A total of 1742 pieces representing 970 artists were submitted to a distinguished panel of judges in the fall of 2006. The resulting exhibit is a reflection of the diversity of floral art, with exquisite examples of photorealism, botanical illustration and expressive abstracts.
